About

Hello friends!

I am a twenty-something recent post-grad who has traveled around the world and wants to share her foodie adventures. I believe that food and culture are directly tied. I love showing my cultural background through the traditional meals that were passed down from family member to family member. Cooking is culture and I want to celebrate it.

I am currently living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and attempting to eat seasonally and locally. The benefits of living in this climate is that it is fairly mild and wet all year around, which produces many fruits, veggies and fungi.

A food mosaic is the antithesis of food fusion. It is the representation of different cultures through distinct ingredients and the appreciation of traditional cuisine. This is not to say that I don’t appreciate fusion dinning (I do in fact!) but I try to explore food through traditional family recipes and cooking techniques.

I spent about 12 years living in the Philippines, which is, in itself, a mosiac of different culinary flavors. Their traditional style is Polynesian but they were colonized by the Spanish for about 300 years and have adapted many stews and paella’s, they have some Chinese and Indonesian influences because of immigration and proximity and they have some American influences from our brief colonization of the Philippines.

I also spent 2 years living in Sri Lanka, which is a rather small island south of India. There I got to eat all sorts of curries to my hearts content. I love spicy food and every now and then I crave me some curry.

Combine that with all the food my parents and grandparents grew up with and we have a virtual world cookbook!

Today people have forgotten how to cook. Fast and easy meals are on the rise and people are forgetting their culture culinary roots. I am attempting to bring those back. I am exploring the foods of all cultures, not just the ones I was exposed to, in the hopes of somehow inspiring others to do the same. Take that food out of the microwave and enjoy bringing the family together again over a nice home cooked meal.
